Katana Laws in NYS/NYC

Is it legal to have a katana in NYS/NYC (sheathed and in a closed box) either in a car or outside a home?

lok at the NYS Penal Law Section 265. There is no law stating a size limit ( except NYC Admin Code). In the city, I would not carry unless locked in a box and clearly go to or coming from a explainable location....
