Well, they are made in Thailand rather than Japan. Of course most of the "katana" you see floating about these days are made in China. Are these better or worse? I couldn't say.

Thaitsuki is overpriced junk afaik. That's the consensus on swordforums and SBG. From what I've read their quality is no higher than a $300 Huawei, Hanwei, or KC.

I believe that the previous comment is right
so I suggest this manufacturer:

http://ryansword.com/

They are selling on e-bay too and have a good reputation.

I wanted to order from them a $200-250 katana 2 years ago
but had trouble with getting a license from my customs office
so I decided to make one myself.

I think they have pretty good quality for their price
but what I like the most is the choice of their fittings.
I have search the web a lot but haven't seen better fittings anywhere else.

Cheers.

I have no issued with the raptor series blades, other than being a little heavy. Mine stood up well against cutting Stevens' mutant bamboo.

hey, thanks guys, i will save the money and look at the other options you guy's have suggestions, thanks

I'm the obligatory forumite come to this thread only to tell you that katanas suck and you are a mall ninja for even suggesting that they might be decent weapons.

(I'm the obligatory forumite come to this thread only to tell you that katanas suck and you are a mall ninja for even suggesting that they might be decent weapons). it would be just for looking at, my weapon of choice is my fal, much better than a sword, thank"s though.

Just so you know, Thaitsuki swords are NOT nihonto by virtue of not being made in Japan.

Nice...though I believe post was asking about something specific and yes katanas make great weapons if you have a clue about how to use them. Mall ninjas buy cheap stuff that would get them or someone else hurt during an epic fail. Good luck.

If you really want to make an investment purchase, save your ducats and pony up for one of these from http://www.aoi-art.com/index.html. You won't go wrong and nihonto purchased from this site is sure to increase in value, as these are NBTHK "papered". Most of the katana-esque swords from China and elsewhere will NOT hold value, even the higher end Paul Chen swords sold by Bugei. Of course, you can also go the custom route and get one by Michael Bell (Dragonfly Forge), Howard Clark, etc. - these are also likely to increase in value.
