Katana to Tanto

I have in my possession a WW2 katana. I've recently gotten it evaluated. It is oil tempered and not hand forged steel. Basically the cost of restoration is more than the blade is worth. I had read that back in the day tantos were often made from broken other blades. My thinking (though it seems like sacrilege), is to make myself some tantos. Is this feasible...or unholy.

There might be a change on this. My experts inform me that even as is, the blade is worth $800-$1200. Whatyaknow... I guess I'm going to have to go thru the E-Bay thing.

I would either leave it as is or sell it.

Tantos were rarely made from broken long swords but they are out there. Also, its a modern blade and ive never heard of a broken modern sword being converted to a tanto.
