My katana arrived a few minutes ago.Once again,I am in love. The blade is very straight and sharp along the entire length. The tsuba is steel, with scroll work on the side. The top of the tsuba has to beautifully carved dragons.THe umm what word to use? buttcap has a beautiful engraving of some mountaisn with the sun rising in the background. The sword feels very sturdy,I am very excited about going out and cutting with it.My initial review, this sword is definitely a 12 out of 10 rig

The scabbard is a bit tight, but who cares? The sword wont do any good in the scabbard

Robert I believe that's what I asked Uncle if it was there at the tip the other day. The way I understand it that "bulge" is what makes the katana such a formidable weapon.
I would like to know its true purpose as well. Thanks for asking.

Khukuri FAQ

There is a proper name for it but I can't remember what it is. Some Americans refer to it as a "battle bulge".

Somebody will be around who knows the nomenclature and will help us.
