katars

I think India but am not certain. In campfire stories I have heard the katar called a tiger's claw or tiger's tooth rather than a katar.

I have heard of another weapon from India called a "tiger's claw": the bhagh-nakh. It could be concealed inside the hand and all that was visible would be rings on the trigger finger and the pinky. Inside there was a bar with claws. When the fist was clenched the claws stuck out between the fingers to be used. It was a favorite weapon of assasins. There were also less concealable versions equipped with one or two dagger blades protruding from top or bottom of the hand.

Bill used to show a knife known as a bhagh-marne, or tiger killer, I believe, but doesn't catalog it anymore. It was usually shown in the picture with the two khanjarlis.
Had a little, leaf shaped blade.

The Katar and tiger's claw are both from India. The latter looks like a rake, the Katar specializing in punching thru armor.

I think they called the tiger's claw a baghko nangra. It was worn and used much as a katar and, in fact, looked like a katar except for the claws rather than blade. My guess is that's why the names were often interchanged when telling the campfire stories.
