-er, SwineKat has Flu Claws!
No. KatClaws has Swine Flu!

Yes. My otherwise lovely Bride is an achy, phlegmy, fevered mess right now. :barf: She started Monday with what she thought was a simple sinus infection. Yesterday she learned that another faculty member was out sick with a confirmed case of swine flu. This morning, she went in to work and realized she was no longer functional, and left to go to the urgent care clinic. There, she was informed that most local health care facilities are no longer testing to determine whether or not someone has swine flu specifically, since the treatment is the same for whatever flu you've got. But, the Doc said that, based on her symptoms, and "context", odds are she's got the PigPox. When she called the school to let them know she would not be returning, she was told that she was the 11th staff member to be out sick. That's about 20% of the school's total staff of +/-50. I don't know how long they'll stay open at this rate.

She is feeling poorly, but remains in good spirits. I think her having rescued a new black kitten just in time for Halloween is at least partly responsible for that. ;) I stopped on my way home from work and picked her up some sickbed staples to provide some aid and comfort with her convalescence. Her fever is coming down and she is hydrating dutifully, but we have been told to expect a course of 5-7 days to recovery.

So, please wish her well, and take care of your own and your own selves!

Smoke and prayers for a speedy and safe recovery, Kat!
Some nice slop, a tub full of mud and a good greasing should have you feeling better in no time. :D

No! It's spreading! Well upside, you can't get it twice (can you?). You'll have to watch out for it now MacHete.

Smoke up, lots of rest.

Mark and Holly

Lot's of folks out in our school systems too...blech,

The Wife who works for the Health Dept says that the seasonal flu has not hit yet so that you can pretty much assume any flue going around now is Swine Flu.

Hope she gets better quick MacH!

Smoke and prayers from Reno

Thanks guys. :)

She's developed some additional symptoms today, but remains cheerful.
(Again, I credit the new kitten -and your caring support- for this.) ;)
I remain hale and hearty- with crossed fingers, held breath and washed hands. :D

MacHete, I'm sorry your wife is sick. Hope she heal quickly. She's in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted.

Sorry for the late update.
Kat has made a slow, "two steps forward, one step back" kinda recovery. She tried to return to school too soon last week, and quickly saw the flaws in that plan and had to come home again. She took off a couple more days, and finally returned to school on Thursday- just in time for a staff-hosted "family lunch" during the day and parent-teacher conferences until 6:00pm- about an eleven hour, particularly demanding day.

I managed to contract all the symptoms myself except the fever. :barf: So, I didn't have to miss any work- although there was a day or two I wouldn't have minded so much. ;)

We are both much better now, the new kitten is thriving and we're trying to catch up on some housework. Thank you guys again for your kind thoughts, smoke and prayers. I have no doubt that it helps. :) Ya'll are good folks, and I am continuously grateful to be a part of this community.
