Hi folks,

can anyone tell me if it is possible to remove the ugly thumbstud made of plastic on the actual Katz Cheetah folders???

Thank you:)

I have been carrying one of those Katz for years. Good solid folder, feels like a fixed blade. That black plastic thing is a bit on the large size. I left it in place, but mine has a small phillips screw that holds it in on. Try removing the screw, it should just come off.

Hmmmmmmmm...but won´t there be a hole in the blade where the screw once was???

I suggest filling the hole with a black epoxy such as JB Weld. It won't be invisible, but I think it'll look decorative. Try a black crayon and see how it looks. Crayon might work as well as epoxy, come to think of it....

I would think crayon would melt under relatively low temps. I know that left on the carpet in a car during the summer they will melt. I do not know if this is a knife for pocket carry but I wouldn't trust crayon in my pocket walking around.

I would think the epoxy would work. We have an application here at work where the guys mix a colorant with epoxy to "hide" a through tapped hole that should have been a blind hole. I have tried to get them to quit because it always ends up looking like a silver, marbled spot on a brushed aluminum surface. Might as well make it look like you meant it than try to match colors.

Usually when you try to color match it doesn't work. You would be better off contrasting and capitalizing on the company colors for decoration.

I have not removed mine, but I think that hole would be very tiny. If it really bugs you, and don't ever plan to put the thumbstud back on, then I would just tighten remove the thumbstud, and then put the screw back on real tight, and grind the head off so it is flush with the spine. It should be quite invisible afterwards.

A VERY VERY good idea, thank you very much:thumbup:
