My wife likes to kayak. All flat water, just for exercise and to get out and enjoy the day. She wants a cockpit cover so that when she stores the kayak or has it on the roof rack it doesn't get wet or critters in it. She also wants a little wheeled dolly to roll it to the boat launch after she takes it off the car.

She has a Walden plastic kayak, one of the basic jobs. I'm not sure the model number.

I know nothing of kayaks. I weigh 310 and apparently my center of gravity is somewhere above my ears, because every time I've been in one I flipped it over immediately. I have a Kiwi Angler sit on top kayak now, that I've used like 3 times and it isn't tippy, but it is like paddling a barge. So I don't really know how to pick out something that will work. The main thing I'm looking for is probably ease of use. She doesn't use the equipment hard. I want something of good quality, but no need for any high tech or expensive options.

Thanks!

I got a Kayak recently and I know that you can't have too many dry bags or boxes. She needs at least one of decent size for cell phone, camera, keys, etc. If she enjoys the scenery she might like a decent pair of waterproof binoculars as well. You could also look into sun hats, waterproof cameras, sunglasses or kayaking shoes. I would enjoy getting any of those things for my birthday.

For a dolly, check out seitech. Also, a nice light weight paddle makes a huge difference.

This past summer, I was paddling with a new friend. At the take-out, she handed me her gear bag, and told me to keep it. She had gotten it at IKEA for 59 cents. It will supposedly support 50 pounds. A few weeks ago, I stopped at IKEA and picked up 15 of them so I could pass on the goodness to all my paddling pals. Take a look: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/17228340/

Okay, an IKEA bag makes a pretty cheapo Christmas gift, so I'll suggest a Pelican box too. Every boater needs at least on Pelican case.
