A couple weekends ago my family and I were joined by a couple of my friends for a nice little beach adventure. The ocean had been rough but we wanted some food. We headed out to Big River, near the town of Mendocino to see if we could snag a few more dungeoness crabs before the season closes. The wind was blowing and ocean was a little rough for diving but we did manage to hook & line a nice black rock fish to cook with the crabs. We also got to explore some awesome sea caves and kayak some decent surf. It was a great way to spend a sunday afternoon.

Here is a short video of the day.

Hello,

Great little video! I wish the beaches we launch from had a nice long break like that! Im down in the Ventura area and my buddy and I do alot of yak fishing. Mostly for halibuts, white sea bass, and calicos. If your in the area hit me up.

Tight lines,

Chris

Matt bro, one of these days I will make it out that way and learn a thing or two!

Looks like a great day. You sure have some beautiful country out there! I've flirted with the idea of dropping a crab pot off the back of my yak...how difficult are they to haul back up?

I think it will all depends on how full the pot is. A pot with a limit(10) of dungies would take some effort but I think it could be done. It would help to have two people for the final lift. I would call it "high quality" problems. "Oh man my trap is so full I can barely lift it"

nice vid man. what was in the bowl weighing the crabs down in the pot?

It was some fresh grown herbs, lemon and butter. The only store bought food was a little butter and the marshmallows. The lemons were picked, the herbs grown. Of course the fish and crab caught there that day.

as cartman would say "sweeeeet".. what herbs? sorry i am idea shopping ;-)

It was mainly basil, oregano and cilantro. The herbs and lemons were from by buddy's garden. We just added about 1/4 stick of butter. The fish was so good. Maybe better than the crab that day. We used the double boiler method because we didnt have a grill or much coals to set it on. It worked well to cook the fish and help keep the water boiling.
