^^^^Exactly Crossada...while I really, really enjoy your videos, do you not normally take some form of first aid kit?

Actually I almost never have a first aid kit. The only thing I would have done different if I had a first aid kit in the video would be to put a bandaid on, but I didn't really need it. When I go on longer trips further away from civilization I carry a very small kit but there isn't anything fancy in it. Thanks for watching.

Couple of points to be made about the 'no first aid kit' thing.
1) I'm not advocating going without a first aid kit, I was just showing what can happen in the woods. I didn't intend for that to happen, but it did.
2) The video shows a number of different extremely important principles of wilderness first aid, and I'm not going to try and spoon feed you those principles. They are in the video.
3) That was arterial (high flow/pressure) bleeding, and I got it under control without a huge amount of gear or gee-whiz contraptions. How did I do that? I also did it under pressure in unplanned conditions. There are some take home lessons, and I can't tell you what they are. You have to evaluate it based on your own particular system.

@IowaGuy: Agreed. You're right though, all that any of us would have done was throw a bandaid on it. Doesn't change the fact that the cut was still there and hurts. I like that you show what will happen, mistakes and all. Keep up the good work!

Here is a video of the method I use. The only difference is instead of using a standard strop at the end I use a leather belt on my grinder with some Mother's Metal Polish.
