Kayaking/Rafting knife consideration

You should check out Gerbers selection of river knives. I always had a Tekna FB attatched to my life jacket when I used to go kyaking, but they are not made anymore.

Hey Spyken, dont wear a neck knife kayaking.A strainer could drown you or strangulate you.I carry a Gerber river knife on my PFD when rafting and canoeing, the clip type in the handle. Also look at the Gerber Yari.A folder is okay but they are not nearly as quick or as safe as a fixed blade for a lot of reasons.Cold water causes fumbling hands for a folder, scared moments could cause a slip or a slipped out of the hand knife,Lastly it is possible for a lock blade to come open on its own on your PFD(Ive seen it happen).Go with a Gerber river knife and be totally safe.

Benchmade makes a knife designed for that specific purpose. It is called the river rafter. It comes in a variety of steels. Mine is in 440C. It is an excellent choice.

Try the BUCK TIBURON.

Multi-purpose water sports knife designed in collaboration with world-renowned kayaker, Ed Gillet. The Tiburon™ has a 3-3/4" serrated segment, and a chisel tip on the blade. A handy line cutter on the back and a clever socket wrench. 17-7PH stainless steel gives the perfect balance of corrosion resistance and good edge holding strength. Sheath is molded with belt loop and clip for right or left-hand use. 8-1/2" overall, 6 oz.

thanks for ya views.
marsupial, I wasn't thinking of the SPOT worn as a neck knife but, but to lash it to the PFD lash tab.
I was looking for views on SPOT as a suitable paddling knife - am aware of the gerbers and the bucks, but I feel that their handles are totally uncomfortable and they have less than best steel. I haven't seen/used the Benchmade tho'.
keep em coming - see Sal's comments in the Spyderco forum too.
