Hello all been a while since I've posted on here.
Is there a good VFD alternative to the kbac 27d? I know that's the industry standard and anything else requires an enclosure to protect it.
But for someone starting off would an eBay Chinese special work? Or a teco fm 50?
Thank you all in advance

There are a good number of us "poor folks" using the Chinese VFDs with great success. I've got a Teco on my 1hp lathe that's been working good for several years - that was before I knew about the Chinese drives. Any of the NEMA 1 drives will require a good filter over the air inlet, or mounting inside a dust proof box.

Ok is there a certain brand of Chinese VFD? I talk3d with kuraki for a bit about it but figured I'd ask the masses. Thanks Ken

The Chinese VFDs are actually a very good bang for the buck if properly set up and protected. They have dozens of parameters and can be quite versatile compared to something like the KBAC, though for running a grinder, you won't need to set too many parameters.

As for brands, I think the most popular is the huanyang, though any of the eBay vfds are probably made by the same company, if not close enough to not matter. Personally, I'd probably opt for one with the removable front controller with a speed pot already installed, as it's easier to control, and much more convenient.

Ooops!!!! You're right, the one with speed control is 3 ph input, I should have looked closer.

BUT - the first listed (model HY02D223B) is shown as: Input Power - 380V class:380±15%;230V class:220±15%
That one should be single ph input.

OK, take a look at this image from the manual for VFD model number HY02D223B and see it shows Single & Three Phase both as suitable input voltages.
