First off, I want to say that I don't own this one (yet) and it is for sale by the maker who is a friend of mine. I do hope to own one of these swords someday.

KC Lund Combat Katana
  • Nagasa (Blade) Length: 29-1/2"
  • Tsuka (Handle) Length: 12-5/8"
  • Sori (Depth of Curve): 3/4"
  • Blade Steel: Hand-forged L6
  • Blade Finish: "Utility Finish" 400-Grit Machine Finish with 500-Grit Buff
  • Heat Treatment: Bainite. "Aus-tempered" with molten salts
  • Fittings: Forged steel with hot caustic bluing. Cast bronze habaki.
  • Handle: Leather over Maple core with black cotton epoxied wrap.
  • Saya: Laquered Poplar wood with leather wrapped throat.

This sword has been modeled after the Japanese hira zukuri style, made during the end of the Muromachi Period (approx. 16th Century) and at the end of the Edo Period (approx. 19th Century). Characteristic of this style is the wide flats and rounded kissaki, or tip.

I want one of these more than any other sword I've ever seen! They cut like you would not believe!!!

Look at the flex in the last pic!

Great pics. I always want to see the sword demonstration a blade show but never get there.
Like that usual suspect hat. Wonder why I can't get own that forum?

It seems like a "nice" first effort.

If that is the maker in the photo, he can't cut worth beans, and would be dead on the battlefield in about 15 seconds(yes, I am fully aware that nobody fights with swords anymore). He should never have allowed anyone to photograph him doing this.

He is cutting BEACH MATS, looks like he hit the peg in the last shot, which is why the blade would flex, and I have so many other comments that my head is about to explode.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Alright, I should have put a big disclaimer on the cutting pics. That is my friend Marshall, not KC, and he has no experience in the cutting arts. The demo was just to show off the sword. Yes, he did hit the peg in the last shot, it was just included to show the flex, which didn't bother the sword in the slightest.

my thought was the same...but the man is untrained. in cutting we usually do not want the blade to flex but sometimes it happens. looks to be a thick mat so that is a pretty impressive "hack"

looks to be a take down piece but i don't see any pegs (mekugi). and the nakago seems too thin for the width of the sword.

i have a hira zukuri and it's my favorite, as well.

It is not a takedown sword. It is based on the hira zukuri, but not designed to replicate a traditional sword at all.

As far as the tang goes, the handle is not very thick, so I doubt the tang could be much wider. KC said he tested an earlier prototype extensively and it had no trouble.

Steven,

Very nice looking sword, Marshall looks like a real pro.
We all missed you and Marshall last weekend at the hammer in.

I really wish I could have come, but I couldn't get off work. :(

Will you be at Solvang?

What happened to the pics? I'm not seeing them... and I love seeing Katana or any Sword pics.
