Well I finally bit the bullet in October and bought myself a KDSH. A little background on me; my wife and I really enjoy throwing hawks together. I had 4 hawks prior to getting my KDSH. I have and use/throw a Coal Creek Forge Poll Hawk, and from Cold Steel I have and throw a Norse Hawk, a Rifleman's Hawk, and a Trail Hawk. I really enjoy them, and it is a great way to keep Mrs. Vegas Blade involved in my sharp, pointy hobby. She is actually pretty decent, and can get pretty regular sticks with the Coal Creek and the Trail Hawk.
Fast forward a bit. I started really seeing the value in a dedicated "Tactical Hawk". I am a LEO, and I have started to have my eyes opened to the advantages of these tools. From a vehicle extraction to a door breaching tool on a MacTac scenario. GOD FORBID a situation developed at a school, movie theater, auditorium etc, I figure this would be a tool that could get me through a steel door, or a heavy exterior fire door. I could go on and on, but you get my point. I went back and forth between a KDSH and several other options. Being a Busse guy, with the level of toughness the "kin family" is known for, the KDSH won out. Between the warranty, and the SR101, it was somewhat of a no brainer deal.
Well my KDSH arrived today and WOW!!! I am impressed!! While I didn't get a chance to put it through much because it got dark on me, I did take the time to throw it about 30-40 times into my rail road ties I use as targets. MAN, this baby cuts deep and buries itself!! It took me about 3-4 times to find the balance point, but once I did, it was stick after stick after stick. The balance point is very different, but once I found it, I couldn't miss. This hawk is going to make a great tool. I am going to buy a sheath and attach it to my Mac Tac bag from 5.11. That is my "Go Bag". It has everything from spare mags for my AR15, to a trauma kit, to chem sticks etc.
Suffice it to say that I am very pleased and very happy with my decision. As a side note, after throwing my KDSH about 40 times into the RR ties, it would still slice paper!!! My drop forged 1084 traditional hawks won't do that. This SR101 is truly incredible and as awesome as it is toted as being. Not one single chip, roll or ding in my edge.
Well I have gone on enough. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you want a "Tactical Hawk", and I don't like that name, but it is a great description, this KDSH should be just the ticket. Check them out.
