I have had both and there is not a clear winner for me between the two.
Not having weighed either, I can't really say which is lighter but I'd imagine the cord wrapped version would be a few ounces lighter. So I guess that could be an advantage if all day carry is a priority for you.
The cord wrapped KDSH also has the advantage of not having any chance of deformation/failure of the handle attachment tubes. This is a definite plus IMO, especially considering hawks are designed to be thrown and throwing is pretty hard on handle slabs & attachment points due to hard impacts.
I also feel that the micarta slabs offer more comfort over the cord wrap, and possibly slightly better grip/traction depending on how well the cord wrap is done. However, this is only if the handle is undamaged and the slabs have not moved on you. If this were to happen in the field, you'd be wishing that you opted for a cord-wrapped version.
The corners on the micarta KDSH are much better finished, IMO. They are rounded pretty nicely compared to the squarish corners on my cord wrapped KDSH.
Also, you can still find the cord wrapped Ganza hawks on the exchange so no need to order one from the Custom Shop......
