KDSH Tree Chopping

Got some time in the woods yesterday and came across a downed tree of about 30 inches in diameter. Had my Kill Devil on hand and figured I would see how long it would take to make one tree into two. I was also curious on how well the edge would hold up after the task was completed. Not sure what kind of tree it was, it was certainly dead, dry and rather hard. A few pics.....then the edge outcome.

OK heres the outcome on the edge..........

After the half an hour it took to cut in half and the total ball park guess of several thousand chops.........it still sliced paper rather well. BTW......when I talk about slicing paper......I don't refer to thick notebook paper and starting the slice right next to your thumb while you hold it. I hate when people do that. Its easy to slice paper while you hold the paper and start the cut right by your thumb. That's a completely braced slice. Cheating.

I hold the paper and slice from about 2 or 3 inches away from where I'm holding. I always like to use very thin paper like a receipt as well.

Any who........sliced the paper just fine. Hung up once or twice.......but other than that, no problems.

Since several thousand chops to a tree didn't seem to bother the KDSH much.......I had a few 2x4's out back and a ton of sheet metal used for an old chicken coop. Let's see if this phased the edge much.....

Nope.

Sorry.......no pics. My bad. Ripped a bunch of holes in the sheet metal with the spike and made a handful of slices with the blade.

Went back to the house and tried the same paper. Same results. Edge remains the same.

Normally I'm a stickler about touching up an edge every time I give it a little use, but quite honestly.......this doesn't need it in the least. Its now oiled and put away. No touch up at all.

Forgot to add........HOTSPOT CITY!!!!!!! LMAO!! Sure I took a tree down that's way to big to be taken down with a tomahawk but that paracord wrap kicked my hands ass!! Not complaining actually......that's expected. In fact.......I thought that my hand would be torn up way before it was. The KDSH was not designed to be a friendly chopping tool for long term use. Add to that a paracord wrap and I was certain my hand would be screaming way before it was. I'll bet I had a good hundred chops in before I noticed any discomfort.

Lol...was wondering how your hands felt after!

Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the review. I have chopped quite a few trees with the KDSH. It is a great tool to have with you.

So it wouldn't be your first choice to build a log cabin with?
Quite the challenge-MY NEW Jenny Wren does well as a woods chopper but I'll stick with smaller obstacles
