This is in response to a closed thread that I didn't see until a few minutes after it was closed, so no links, no names, not even really going to mention the specific details. I won't have to, and it will be apparent why in a moment.
As one who would probably be expected to think one way about a given set of circumstances due to having made comment on them previously, I want to say this about that: If I were to try and fail to get in on a specially priced buy that was reserved for a specific group of folks of which I was not a part, and then went ahead and paid full retail for the same item anyway, I would bitch-slap anyone who stood in front of me and told me I didn't have every right in the world to do whatever I wanted to do with that merchandise. In fact, even if I had succeeded in my attempted end-run around the quals for the special buy, I'd still bitch-slap 'em for thinking they have any right whatsoever to tell me what to do (or not do) with my own personal property.
I can be a cantankerous ol' fart. I'm set in my ways and have been known to put the brakes on my brain and push the accelerator pedal on my biases at times, instead of the other way around. I did that in a recent thread by basing some of my objections to a request being made of Beckerheads on how the requester makes his living. That was wrong of me, and I sincerely apologize for it. To the extent that something I said spilled over into a now-closed thread, this is for that requester to use if/when he sees fit, in writing or in person, but only at a Beckerhead gathering should he choose the latter. I still have my biases and ain't gonna volunteer for an on-the-street beat down.
