Keep getting alert messages that don't make sense

I keep getting notification messages for:

Threads I was never and am not a part of, like the notification for the RLB0414 thread. It says my post was quoted in there but A: it is not, and B: I had never even read that thread.

For sale threads popping up as new notifications but they're sales posts that ended and were resolved days prior.

Any idea what is going on here?

I’ve complained about this several times, getting shit tons of notifications and emails for threads I’m not following. It’s happening right now with the same threads you pointed out started by “SometimesHappens”.

Ok so it's not just me. I thought maybe I had somehow turned on some weird notification features or something. Super weird that it's saying I'm being "quoted" in threads I'm not participating in and, in fact, have not been quoted in lol.

A couple of guesses here.

Do you have that subforum "Watched"? That could be why you're receiving notifications for new threads.

It is possible to quote someone in a thread that they never posted in. Click the quote button under a post and it adds it to the "clipboard". Go to any other thread and in the reply box at the bottom you'll see an "Insert Quotes" button. This could be what's happening and it's just edited out before you see it.

I'm not watching that subforum, I've actually never even been to the one particular subforum and in the one I was "quoted" I even searched the page for my username and read every comment and I wasn't actually quoted anywhere. So I am completely baffled lol. Thanks for the suggestions though!

benchwarmer380 is correct.

Best guess is that the software is notifying you of a ‘new thread’ when the title of an existing thread is changed (to add “SOLD” in this case). That would correlate with the notification date anyway.

Ooooh ok that second part definitely makes sense. Also, now that I think about it, I haven't had any more of those odd notifications in several days anyway.
