Keep getting bit by R.A.M.

Does anyone else get bit in the palm when closing the R.A.M.? I love the knife, feels good, fast to open and close. But I've gotten bit 3 times in as many days when closing the thing. Basically the very tip of the blade slides across my palm right when closing. Am I the only one?

I'll try to get some pictures of it tomorrow. But basically I close it by pushing open the lock and flicking it closed by the handle.

In this video starting at the 16 second mark is basically how I close it.

It works in the video. You have to keep the sharp metal bits away from the squishy fleshy bits.

Honestly flicking a knife closed it asking for trouble. Start closing the knife slower and you injuries should decrease.

tip of advice, dont keep your palm there. the blade swings free enough that you can get enough momentum to close it that way without your palm right at the butt of the knife.

I always close my RAM exactly the same way as you describe, never been bit by using this method. No offense, but do you have large hands? Possibly an oversized palm? Are you letting the left side of your palm "squish" over the butt of the knife, getting in the way of the blade travel? Maybe try adjusting your grip if any of these things apply.

Never had any trouble with mine. Watch some youtube videos of people with RAMs and try their methods...maybe we can figure something out.

I found this a bit funny, have you found lots of people that take offense to having large hands? :D

I've never thought of my hands as particularly large, they aren't small, maybe a bit larger then average?

I think its the right side of my palm that's squishing over. I realy can't do it on purpose, only seems to happen when I'm quickly closing and not particularly paying attention to it. I'm more used to BM Axis knives and have never gotten bit in the same way by one of them.

LOL, no I haven't really found that people take offense to it.:D I guess I just prefaced my post with "no offense, but....." because I didn't want to sound like I was saying, "Hey fat hands, move your huge ass palm aside if you don't want it to get cut!!!":p

Anyway, I don't know if any of our advice helped or not, but I hope you discontinue cutting yourself open with that knife!

And if not, at least the problem is self-correcting; eventually, you'll slice off enough of your palm that the blade clears! :D

LOL! :)

It only took a couple of serious cuts in my legs and hands to break me of the habit of getting bit by a knife. Good luck JJPaul!

Do you have a chubby palm...
Maybe a little extra hand meat is to blame?

trimcut, see post above. That is just the type of thoughtless accusation I was trying to avoid:p:D

See, no JJPaul is going to lose sleep worrying that everybody thinks he's got some kind of "chubby palm syndrome"!! Actually that sounds more like a condition you would get from using a certain Snap-On Kershaw a bit too much;)
