Keep it or use it? Schrade Trapper, a small help.

The story in short is that I'd like to have a new trapper for my use at work.
I use it mainly for food tasks, at lunch break. I have already a RR that is serving their tasks flawlessly but I like to switch to a carbon bladed one, to add patina and remebers on blade. I can use one of my several opinels, since they take great patina. But you know, as a knife nut using some better knife worth it.

Suddenly I remebered that I have this jewel on my drawer, I bought several time ago. It snaps and shuts strong, with a half stop and pristine blades. Also the handles are sweet and fantastic. The only thing is that has pratically no edge. SO i should sharpen it before usign it.
I'm not a collector guy, and I'd like to use everything I buy.
But this time, only this time, I'm stopping to use these fantastic blades.

In very very short...
Keep it (or sell it) or use it?
:)

It is something that happens to you also or it's only me?

Suggestions? What could be its value?
Hard decision...

Your knife is not really a Boker trapper :) it's a Schrade Fire & Ice trapper (made by GEC on their 23 frame).
Not a GEC expert myself, but from what I've heard, they're not much collectors' knives, so my suggestion is use it.

The post above is a good suggestion

I just refinished an older boker barlow. Giving the bolsters a nice satin finish. I know some would think it to be cringe worthy, but I like it.

Second thought.
No matter the collector's value, it's up to you to decide whether you want to use it or not (for whatever reason).
Your knife was made by GEC in 2007 or 2008, but their #23 frame has been used for years...so you might pick a "regular" GEC #23 and use it, and keep yours pristine until you decide to use it.
Again, it's a personal choice. :)

Fausto thanks a lot, I edited the title. Don't know why I wrote Boker...

And that's also was I was trying to do recently, unless I discovered this one...

I've never kept a knife that I didn't plan on using. I say use it!
And that's what I'm thinking currently, except for this one!

How big is it closed? GEC also made them for "Schrade" on the #73 pattern. That bone is beautiful and if you use it, you'll bond with it more. If you're not a collector and not worried about its resell value, go ahead and use it.

As for value, I remember seeing them being offered for less than their GEC counterparts. Will they go up in value over the GECs in the future? Who knows. If you use it, I'm sure its value to you will go up though.

It's about 4" closed.
Thanks for your hints!

Your ruler needs some setting :D it is either 3,75" (#73 frame) or 4,5" (#23 frame)
I guess it's the former though :)

I agree with Trand - I think that knife looks fantastic! Even though I've decided full-sized trappers are too big for me to carry, I can still appreciate their looks. (And, like you, I use a Rough Rider trapper all the time for food prep, but it just stays in my kitchen.)

Since you have no sentimental or collector attachment to it, I would vote to use it, and use it well!

So Im going close to set up my stones and set a nice edge on it, yes.
I think I will have a nice patina soon on it.

And also I will find another trapper for sure.
I love seeing people like me that are liking fine knives and most of all... Using them.
Yay!

Cheers!
