So, I have always been interested in owning one CR's knives, and finally got the chance from a trade that I made for a couple of pens that I had. The trade was for a LNIB Nyala. It came with the birth card, which sparked my interest more. I have to say, this knife is freaking awesome! The problem is, is that I have other fixed blades (ESEE's) that I use on a daily basis. I often carry my Izula, and am not afraid of messing her up. This knife is too nice and is worth a lot. Not only that, but I have had my heart set on something non knife related for awhile now and can't afford to get it at this point.

So the question is, do I hold onto this thing and wait for the funds for the item I want, or TRADE this beauty? I am somewhat afraid that she is going to sit around and not see serious use as I show my Izula. And there is another part of me that wants a Sebenza if I am to have a CRK.

I know I am asking for opinions, but I am interested in them and the reasoning behind them. Thank you in advance.

The knife you let go is all too often the knife you never get around to replacing. Save for what else you want, hold the Nyala for a while at least. It may find a way into your rotation. If not, you can always move it out later, but don't rush that decision.

The good thing about the CR's knives you mentioned is they are readily available. I only keep knives that I have a hard time tracking down or there's a long wait to order one. If you can get your asking price for your Nyala then I would let her go. There is a sense of assurance that you can always get another one later when you are ready. But if someone is low balling your price, then I would just keep it.

As a Registered User, he better not be posting an asking price.

i take it you are referring to me...and i havent placed any sort of an asking price on any of my threads. as the title suggests, i was only asking for peoples reasoning on keeping or selling/trading my newly acquired knife. i have read the rules.

Obviously, you did not read the rules otherwise you would have known that selling is restricted to Gold/Platinum members.

I did not mention selling it on BF, he was asking a fair question.......

There are plenty of other places he can sell it!!!

This is in his original post.....

And then he made mention of selling in response to Esav.

It is against the rules for a Registered User to even make the mere suggestion of selling a knife. It is considered a "backdoor" sales pitch which is highly frowned upon.

If you are going to bash, take it to another thread. As Giant 1 beat me to it, I can sell it or TRADE it somewhere else. I thought that this would have been a good sub-forum to post this thread, as it is for people who appreciate or have experience with Chris Reeve Knives. I did not think that this was going to turn into a bashing on how some of you feel that I shouldn't have an opinion or ask questions because I don't have a paid membership.

And to Ken C., I would expect a little more respect from someone in the same brotherhood/profession. just another cocky SOB.

And so, the question still remains open for opinions on the title of the thread. Look at facts before you start running your know it all mouths.

No back door sales pitch. I love knives and was asking to see opinions on holding onto my first CRK or getting rid of it.

The word SELL should not be mentioned at all in ANY of your posts. That's the point I'm trying to make. You may not think it's a back door sales pitch but that's the way we at BFC see it and that's all that matters.

And insulting me is not a good way of getting on this "cocky SOB's" good side. Our chosen professions have nothing do with how business is conducted on this forum. Pulling out the "same brotherhood/profession" card doesn't fly here. To get respect you need to earn it and in this case your disregard for the rules of BFC show disrespect for the Admin, Mods, and paying members of this forum.

To get respect, you need to earn it, is exactly what is wrong with people. You should respect others, and treat them the way you want to be treated, unless they prove themselves otherwise.

As far as pulling the "card", what I am merely saying is that a person in your profession is looked at as being a standup individual. Someone who respects others. Someone willing to help. It doesn't matter whether you are wearing uniform or not. And I'm not concerned with getting on your good side. I am stating something that I feel, unless you want to moderate that.

I am tired of so much negativity. My intentions were not bad, it was a question. If you had a problem, you could have said it a little nicer, especially since we are not face to face and I can't see your body language and I can't hear your tone of voice. I see words typed ever so bluntly and rudely.

So, did you have an opinion on the original question?

posts snipped

Did you check out who you're posting with? Do you really want to be arguing with the mods???

I would say this is actually more likely not to be true than to be true. Think of all the discontinued CRKs that are actively sought (Regular Sebenza, the One Piece Range knives), not to mention the near-continual shortage of many versions of the CRK folders. The Nyala doesn't appear to be in either category right now, but that could change tomorrow. Unless the OP is really sure the Nyala is surplus to his needs or that he doesn't care if he buys it back in later at an overall economic loss, I'd keep it.
