Well, I have an older gen variation of the Leatherm Wave that needs warranty work. It's in pretty bad shape with all the tools pretty much stuck an inaccessible. Leatherman warranty department, depending on what they decide, will fix your existing tool or send you a refurbished new one.
What would your guys preference be? Would you request they fixed and sent back the old tool or would you want them to send you the newer generation?
I've heard a lot of people prefer the older version but the new version does have some really nice up grades.

I have both and prefer the NEW wave. You can add a pocket clip and it has interchangeable driver bits.

Send it in and mark it as sentimental. That way, they'll repair it if possible and send it back unrepaired if it's not. I did the same thing with an old original Super Tool. It came back repaired, sharpened and oiled. It's less expensive to pick up a new Wave than to get a good condition original. So it's best to have both.

I know this has probably been decided awhile ago but I wanted to respond that I sent in my old Wave and requested the new version. IMO, it's better in every way, especially the OHO blades. Also, really like that one can add a bit set. Was pleased it fit in my original leather sheath too.

Not sure why anyone would prefer the earlier model.

A bit driver is useless on a multitool for me unless a decent number of bits is part of the tool itself, like on a Vic Cybertool. If I have a toolbox with me, then I don't need a multitool. If I have to fallback on my EDC multitool, the bit driver is no improvement because I don't EDC extra bits.

The screwdrivers on the original model OTOH have longer reach and can be used as prybars. That's why I kept the original when I sent it in for warranty. My logical upgrade was the Swisstool Spirit, the old Wave I keep as a backup.
