Literally!
I have been experimenting with my "Food Saver" vacuum sealer and came up with a neat idea. I individually seal several Stormproof matches and a striker, creating a waterproof fire source that weighs almost nothing.
I have packed these in various parka and vest pockets for years. I especially like putting them in those rarely used pockets on sleeves.
It occurred to me that when I am in the woods I typically have on some kind of hat. There is usually a little space between the top of my head and the top of the hat and I thought that it might be usable. I took two small safety pins and pinned a matchpack to the liner of the crown of my rain hat, careful not to puncture the hat or the matchpack.
So now if I get separated from my pack, but somehow manage to retain my hat, I've got matches. This idea can be extended by including some tinder and by taping a scalpel blade to the underside of the mmatchpack in case you've lost your knife.
