Our governor does it, who else keeps a sword in their office?

The sword is stored in a case behind the governor's desk, and he's not afraid to use it. Before the start of budget negotiations in January, Schwarzenegger brought out the sword and placed it on a conference table in front of legislative leaders.

I don't usually keep swords in my office, only once in a while if a sword needs repair or is on reserve for a production. But there are plenty in the same building, in the weapons locker about 40' away.

That's awesome!

Me? I would, but I work in a hospital. Not such a great idea...

"I like swords."

"As your leader, I encourage you from time to time, and always in a respectful manner, to question my logic. If you're unconvinced that a particular plan of action I've decided is the wisest, tell me so, but allow me to convince you and I promise you right here and now, no subject will ever be taboo. Except, of course, the subject that was just under discussion.
The price you pay for bringing up either my Austrian or Bodybuilding heritage as a negative is... I collect your f****** head. Just like this f***** here. Now, if any of you sons of b****** got anything else to say, now's the f****** time!

I didn't think so."

I suppose the question would be "is it legal?". It must be if the Governor can do it, right?

Would the same laws apply as would apply to keeping a sword in your home in a given jurisdiction? Plus of course any regulations the workplace might have.

In my case there's a legitimate business reason, we provide weapons to our in-house theatrical productions. Most of our knives and swords are dull, but even a dull 2 handed broadsword can still do a lot of damage.

There is no limitation on blade length for the state of California. Carrying any size fixed blade is legal (subject to local restrictions) so long as it's not concealed.

You might get some interest from the police if you walk down the street with a sword, but they wouldn't be able to pull you up on a knife law.

In your office it's fine. Swords are not restricted items.

Me, I'm happy with my Busse AK-47 :)
