I dont know about this forum but other forums that I have used in the past had the ability to IP ban people. It seems like the recent trouble with stolas's meltdown that if its possible it might be worth looking into. I know IPs are easy to change but its a little deterrent to keep repeat offenders like him away.

We do that when we can. Not everyone has a static IP.

We can not do it in some cases since we would also be banning actual members and prospective members.

thats why members need to keep an eye out. there are websites that you can paste an email addy, ip or username in a searchbox to find out if this person is a spammer. one is stopforumspam which works fairly well. while watching tv, i set my browser to refresh every 10 seconds and watch out for trolls or spammers. i look over every now and then to see if there is a new member. if i see one that catches my eye and is a spammer, i'll alert the mods. read the plank logs which will give you an idea as how the spammers pick id's
