So over the last couple months I have been cycling through some traditional folders... Looking for something that fit into my EDC rotation well, fit with my collection aesthetic, and just general badassery. A number of months ago a friend of mine ordered a Lanny's from Keith and I was impressed, so I jumped on his books...and my turn hath come!
This is a Gunstock Pattern with a CTS-XHP blade, Carbon Fiber handles, blade pivot bushing, and 416 Stainless Liners.
Specs
Blade: 3"
OAL: 6.75"
Closed: 3.75"
Steel: CTS-XHP
Weight: 4.2oz
Keith's blades are bonkers. With blade stock this thin, and this amount of handwork put into a piece I want it to be a literal laser beam, and this knife delivers. It's horrifyingly sharp.
The beauty in a Gunstock pattern is the very slight choil-cum-negative handle angle that the pattern is known. It allows the handle of the knife to lock into your grip in a very comfortable and secure manner. One of the other dangers with a traditional (or any knife really) is the sharpness of the liners. I've had at least one knife from a prominent maker that had razors as liners, this one is not that way, there's not bite when you run your fingers across the edges.
Another true sign of a master is the fit up between the blade and the spring. A true master's knives resemble fixed blades when they're open... As you can see above, Keith is a true master. With this seamless fit, he's also gotten the pull at a good "5, maybeeeeeee a 6" but it's not to firm, and not too loose.
Like I said, an awesome EDC package. Something easily tossed in the pocket when you dart out of the house, or when you want something less intimidating to compliment something more intimidating.
Thanks guys! Hope you dig this one, Keith's an awesome dude and each and every one of you needs something from him... Let me get back on his books first though ;-)
