I really like this knife!!
Kejimkujik National Park("Kiji") is in the southern tip of the province and is known as a world-class canoeing destination.... which is why I go there. During a week-long trip there two summers ago I came across a great looking piece of firewood on the Park-supplied pile.
I took it.... gasp!(.....against the law and all that)
But, alas, the spirits made me pull in to the park office and ask permission to take the piece out of the park - which I received.
So, this is the first knife to get this special wood. What kind of wood is it..... you ask? I could,'t tell you. But I'm going with Red Maple taken from the heart of the tree down at its base of the trunk near the ground. Hard, dense, a bit of spalting, and a lot more chatoyance than I can capture in a photo. Gorgeous stuff!!
The specs:
Blade: 6 1/4", forged 1095 (Aldo's). Flat ground, 2500 grit, hand-rubbed, etched finish showing a wispy temper line.
Handle: 4 1/4", rare Kejimkujik Red Maple and stainless steel pins with Tung oil and buffed Conservator's Wax finish.
Sheath: Hand stitched Wickett & Craig 7 oz veg tanned leather with natural edged and buffed Mink oil finish.
