I have been looking at Kellams and Helles again, I had a few good ones, but scandi grinds fell out of favor with me. Fell out of favor with me so much, that I let some really nice customs go just because they were scandis. Charles May among them . Anyway, I really like the traditional look of the Helle and Kellam brands, and wondered if they were available in flat or hollow grind models? I have looked at Ragweed forge, and saw some that looked like they might possibly be. I have been eyeing the Peltonen 5" modelm but it's a little too tactical for me ;).

Out of curiosity, why do you dislike the scandi grinds. I just picked up my first, its a Koster Bushcrafter in 3V. I was worried till I got it, but the grind and blade is thicker then I thought it would be. I was worried about edge deformation more then anything.

yeah, i'm familiar with that video. pretty cool work with the axe and the knife. old world craftsman.

i use the Aito puukko some and have no real issues with it. the scandi grind works well and is easy to sharpen

Not sure about the Kellams and or Helles bro.. But if you like any of the Brian Andrew Models, he can make you a full flat grind with convex edge on any of his knives I think.

Take a look at the Helle Grizzly, it is not Scandi ground but is traditional flat ground.

Traditional Helle knives are extremely thin, and the scandi grind bevel is pretty narrow, I suppose that you could just put a secondary bevel on them if you want to.

Kellam make their knives using Lauri blades. Lauri does offer blades with non-Scandi grinds, but it will be up to you to add your own handles to them.

Check this link out to see what a scandi can do!!!!

I just think that this is a little ridiculous, maybe a lot. Do you think that this man would tell you that he could not do this with any other type of ground knife? Do you think that if you gave a scandi to a novice this is what they would be able to produce?
Just saying I think that this is alot more about the man and not the knife :)

Enzo Nordic is traditional scandinavian design, but full flat grind. Seems like a good option for you. Bensbackwoods has them with handles on them.

Are you sure about that? I know the Trapper comes in a full flat version but I don't see one in the Nordic.

From Ben's: Enzo Nordic 95mm blade in D2 - Scandi ground to zero; Enzo Nordic 95mm O1 blade - Hardened to RC 59 ground to zero (blanks)

It's possible that the 01 is a flat grind but that 'ground to zero' makes me wonder. If you look at the description for the complete 01 Nordic it says Scandi Grind Ground to Zero.

And from Brisa: EnZo Nordic 95/O1 - Grind: Scandi zero; EnZo Nordic 95/D2 - Grind: Scandi zero

Thanks for the ideas, I really like that Grizzly. I use Moras, and like them, and appreciate the scandi grind, but I prefer the flat grind. Flat/convex first, hollow, then scandi.

Hmm, why don't you approach the quoted guy -he makes those traditional barrel handles and could put one on an enzo blade.

I think Brian is taking a little sabbatical from knife making for some family time.--KV
