I have one of their red plastic handled carbon steel pukkos with forge scale still on the unground part. I really like it. It holds an edge well, and cuts great.

It looks just like the ones you pictured as far as shape and grind are concerned. I think I gave them $16.00 for it at their booth at the Tulsa gun show a couple of years ago. My wife uses it in the kitchen a lot. It is about her favorite knife.

Thanks Scott, the E&TBM are indeed my favourite band.

The Kellam Puukos are $11.99 for the stainless version (Green sheath) and $9.99 for the carbon steel version (Red sheath). I called the good folks at Kellam and they said they had the carbon steel ones in stock, but they were out of the stainless. I actually ended up ordering the model M571:

It's Kellam's answer to Frosts Mora knives. Not bad for $14.95.

James Mattis thought very highly of the Kellam M571. If I am not mistaken, the steel is from files that have been annealed, ground and tempered. I bought two or three and gave them to trapper friends who needed good blades. Excellent steel, great edge holding.

Let me join the chorus, I picked up one of these Kellam M571 at a gun show in Houston 5 years ago. It does time in the kitchen now, used to ride in the pickup toolbox but I decided it was just too good for that. Great little knife for the money, not much to look at but hell for sharp.

These inexpensive models not much to look at, but they'll do the job. I recently bought 2 Frosts Mora knives and these Scandinavian blades cut like lightsabres. Not pretty at all, but very sharp.

I was interested in the s4 carbon version so I emailed Kellam and got the measurements. Total length 8.25 inches, blade 3.7 inches, blade width .75 inch and blade thickness 2 mm.

I just received my M571 from the nice folks at Kellam. For $15.00 you cannot go wrong with this knife. It's looks are nothing to rave about, but it cuts like no tomorrow. The blade is 3.5 inches of forged carbon steel with a red plastic handle and a basic plastic sheath with the "J. Marttiini, Finland" logo on the sheath. The sheath retains the knife securely, better than the plastic sheath on my Frosts Mora knife. Ergonomics are excellent and the edge is scary sharp. I decided to attach some 550 paracord to the sheath to carry it around my kneck tucked in my shirt. Hardly noticable, but not the ideal place to retrive it from should I need it in a pinch. Still, as a utility knife, I can afford to beat the heck out of it and not worry about scarring it or losing it.

I also wanted to say that the people I spoke to at Kellam are the nicest and most helpful folks I have had the pleasure of dealing with. I called them a few times and in every call, they took the time to answer questions. I will definately be doing business with them in the near future.
