Being from Charleston, Wv and having had a grandfather who worked at the old plant, I'm always on the lookout for these

Not sure if this would be called a hand axe, camp axe etc.

I payed a pretty stout price, but had to have it

Nothing's made me more jealous than hearing of people just finding these black ravens sitting in the woods, stuck in a fence post, or at a yard sale for 10 bucks. Truth be told if I ever found a black raven for free or cheap I'd be selling it for big bucks and buying a dozen other axes with it.

exactly!

Same thing with those Norlund Hudson Bays (or any Hudson Bay for some strange reason). Always a chance to buy the same quality tools off one, these are fantastic collectors items though.

There was one on the big auction site that went for >500
Looks to be same size, but he raven is a little different
I didn't have time to research it, just pulled the trigger, there were other buyers milling around it
Even though I'll likely have this one for a while, would still like to get a decent deal

I don't think that is too steep. You gotta have it, you gotta have it. And you got it! Enjoy it in whatever way you have a mind to.

Awesome find, and the price is a fair one for the current market. That's in the ballpark of what you'd pay for a new hatchet of the same quality anyway, and now you have a lightly used, gorgeous, stamped Black Raven you've always wanted. Good score!

You see plenty of the full-size black raven axes single and double bits for sale, the hatchets seem to be more scarce. Price seems like a good deal to me, considering what people pay for black ravens on the old auction site you could probably still turn a profit on it if you wanted to sell it... I'd keep that one though haha.

When you figure every year 1000s of newbie outdoors folks don't blink an eye in choosing to cough up $125+ for a boutique chopper that was manufactured yesterday, I think you did OK.

The more I look at this one, I quickly forget what I paid.
Definitely no buyers remorse after 24 hours!
Im going to take this for a spin cutting up some limbs in the back yard.

I know less than nothing about old axes(doing a lot of reading) but from and visual standpoint it sure is a beauty.

Lesson Evil: You find one of these cheap and don't feel the need to keep it as a collectible item, sell it and buy a dozen or so other axes!
