Hello, Was wondering if anyone can tell me about this scrimshaw or INLAY...

The original owner said its scrimshaw on IVORY fossil, but to me its DEEP CARVING into the ivory and vibrant colors.. Scrimshaw from what i have seen has very little texture to the touch.. This has deep texture.. basically like a CARVING, then color added..

I cant find much on Kelly Carlson other than he made folders and has passed on.. Not even sure if this is a Kelly Carlson knife..

Anyone have thoughts?? Thisknife does grow on me..
Thanks
D.

I dunno. Doesn't look anything like what Kelly would have done.

He may have made some fixed blades before he made folders, but when he went full-time it was ONLY folders.

Need closeups of scrim. He used a few artists. Any initials? The blade mark photo is obscured.

That appears to be a kit knife. You buy the blade, guard and pommel, and make your own handle. (I have the same knife, which I bought about 20 years ago, probably from Jantz Supply.) I don't know about your handle.

That's sounding very plausible. Because when I FIRST met Kelly he was embellishing fantastic Kit Knife folders. He was one of the few of us who ran away to create fully handmade folder after understanding the build process.

This would then be a natural early progression. We would have beat him up for marking a kit. ;)

Show us the mark. I have early images of his marks to compare.

Guys thanks so much for the help!! You know with my fairly good hands on knife experience I did question this knife for some odd reason as being custom, but what sold me other than
the 175$ price was the following...

1) He told me it was a early Carlson..
2) silver sode between the guard and blade(very clean)
3) ivory handle and you can see the CHECKS.. i tried to photo.
4) the DRAGON though not the best, but i was so intrigue but the deep inlay into the ivory.. maybe i am wrong, but super interesting..

Unfortunatelt the SCRIM OR INLAY is not marked... The blade is mirror polished with a kinda u know that KIT feeling, but still very interesting.. no light and cheap..

Here are my photos.. SORRY JIM. I need to get into PHOTO 101..

But i took photos of closeups.. I heard Mr.Carlson did do fixed early so maybe this was a KIT he went over the top on!!?

Sheath is heavy black leather with weird type of greek letters on the back, but then a cheapo velcro knife securment strap

APPRCIATE ALL THE HELP!
D.
