Kelly Forest Service double bit

It is a cool head. I can’t offer much info in the age. The lack of eye ridges may help place it before the 60s but I am not sure.

...it has ccc stamped in it...Can anyone help me with when it was made?

According to Wikipedia,
"The Civilian Conservation Corps was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942..."

According to YesteryearsTools,
"In 1930 the Kelly Axe & Tool Co. was purchased by the American Fork & Hoe Co. Axe production was continued under the new name of the Kelly Axe & Tool Works but at a reduced rate of production. (Note the use of the word “Works” instead of “Co.”)

Based on the above information, if it's a CCC axe from Kelly that's stamped "Works" (not Co.), it would presumably narrow down the timeframe for manufacture to somewhere in the range of 1930-1942.

I heard that they started using the true temper name in 1939 and so maybe that could place it between 1939 and 1942?

Kelly axes marked "True Temper" appear in True Temper's 1938 catalog, but this doesn't rule out that "True Temper" stamps also appeared on some Kelly axes earlier than this (between 1930 and 1938).

That said, I'd guesstimate the likely date of manufacture to be in the range 1938-1941 (which assumes that the 1938 catalog was the major introduction of True Temper axes, and also assumes that wartime production during 1942 was not used for the CCC program that was being discontinued.

Oh ok! I didn’t know that. I keep learning from you guys about this stuff so if I say something that’s wrong please correct me, I really like to learn the history of Kelly Axes as they were made where I live.
