The other day I noticed on the Hilton Falls Side Trail map that there was a designated fire pit away from the main trails. I decided to go look for it and try out my new Kelly Kettle.

After breaking up some deadfall twigs and battoning a piece of kindling I set about getting it going.

It boiled up pretty quick and I made some tea.

I have the cooking kit also (grill, pot/lid, handle, pot stand that goes on top of the chimney) but did not have time to try them out today.
I think I’ll be hanging out at this location from time to time when I can’t get camping and want a legal fire in the local bush. gerry

Not the kind of thing I'd want to carry around but I've wondered about getting one of those for burning driftwood on the beach. Normally I'm a power-user, all Gortex, LEDs, and gas / liquid fuel burners, but at the right event I'll crack out the old candle lanterns, woolly blankets and so on. I think one of those would fit right in next to mah improvised grill, casting for Dover Sole [Solea solea] as the sun goes down. Mellow stuff.

The efficiency and simplicity of those kettles is so appealing that I'm probably going to have to get one. My engineer buddies will be jealous enough to justify the price on that basis alone.

I have the large 1.5 litre.
My friends cannot believe how quick it boils in the morning fishing.
3 to 5 minutes from lighting with 1 piece of newspaper and 2 handfuls of dry twigs. You can burn grass and pine cones.

As soon as it is boiled I fill my little .9 litre GSI teapot and it fits perfectly on the firebase over the coals to steep my tea. With enough water left for instant oatmeal and a rinse.

It weighs practically nothing and I pack it away with a bag of small dry split sticks and 2 folded sheets of newspaper, it holds enough fuel to boil the kettle, sometimes twice.
Got mine on the clearance rack at lee valley for 60$, good score!!. One dent on the side but the inner wall does not touch the outer, no effect on performance.

BTW you are going to regret not taking off those labels now that you have cooked them on.

We have brought it ice fishing in a low steel bucket with some wood and a hobostove, really nice to have hot drinks and warm your hands.

AWESOME piece of gear, once can afford one of those battery gassification stoves this will really fill out my bugout/getaway gear. All your cooking and heating covered with minimal fuel and greatly reduced light signature for clandestine fun in firebans or if SHTF.

I guarantee anyone that buys one will be envied and copied by friends and onlookers.

Could you post pics of the cooking set up and running please when you get a chance? Really want to have a look to see if it is worth it and your honest opinion brother!
