Ken has recently started work on a new knife for me and had sent some pictures just before Christmas of the early progress.

We had talked about building a Norfolk pattern but making it with a modified master blade that was somewhere between a traditional wharncliffe and a spearpoint.

Ken being the ever flexible friend was happy to take on the project and came up with some very neat ideas.

As i was sitting at my computer this afternoon i got a note from Ken with a Youtube video of his "work in progress" attached. I thought some of you would enjoy seeing the video. As i told Ken - IMHO this is an absolutely terrific way to share his work.

Hope you all enjoy it as much as i did.

Awesome. I wish more slippie folks would post WIP videos in this forum. Very entertaining

I cant wait until this working day is over so I can use my own computor to see mooving pictures. Im not surprised that it is Ken Eriksson who shares this way. I got a feeling he is very generous with his knowledge and have a joy in sharing his skills. If I was a slipjoint maker I would love to have the opportunity to work with him for a day, talking and locking.
And more direct, Thank you Ken for taking the time to share your knowledge with us.

Very cool to see!. I bet it's even better knowing that it's a knife he's making for you.

And from clicking a couple of the videos on the right of the page, it appears he's a lot younger than I figured him for, and an excellent skateboarder!:D

Great video!!! Should be a fantastic knife-I really like the looks of the master blade-can't wait to see the finished product....Tony

Wow, we've all heard that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I've never heard video quantified in the same fashion. As cool as WIP pictures are, video is even better. Thanks to both of you for sharing.

Also, I'd like to hear more discussion and possibly an explanation of the catch pin.

Great WIP video  Thank You for sharing it.
You are lookin pretty buffed in the wrestling videos to Ken....where do you find the time?;)

:thumbup:That's going to be a gorgeous knife, easy to see. Thanks Ken & Rick for this

What is also clear to see is that Ken works out every detail,on his pattern builds. Also, the idea this is a labor of love, dawns on you,as the narration goes on.
Good stuff fella's

Here is Ken's next installment. The knife is really taking shape.

I have gotten a couple of questions on this so i thought i would post that the scales will be ivory and we are discussing a more elongated shaped shield.

Vince - your comments on Ken's knife building being a labor of love are really spot-on IMHO.

Having had the pleasure of communicating with Ken about coming knives several times, I can only imagine the anticipation.

Perhaps a week or so ago I was thinking about TRULY custom slipjoints--ones that are honestly made to order, pattern and all--and I have to say that only Ken Erickson came to mind:thumbup:

I've really enjoyed this:)

These are such great videos! Shows why a custom from Ken is such an amazing knife.

Thank you, a really absorbing account:thumbup:

I'm highly impressed with this interpretation, the modified Master blade utilizing a catch-pin is a wonderful stroke. The secondary blade is equally imposing, not some vestigial afterthought.

Inspired me to get my CASE/Bose Norfolk out to check over and fondle during the video. I've always been annoyed by this knife's very sharp edged bolsters, where the bone and steel just don't match up smoothly. Can't carry out the smooth 'braille' test on this knife. So I was interested that KE had looked into old knife catalogues/traditions for a rounded effect. Spot on:thumbup:

Thought about a shield yet:D Bar wouldn't be out of place here or Gimp?
This is going to be an exceptional knife, I want one too ;)

Not much thumb nail there KE surprised you can even open a knife:D
