Hi everyone,

I recently acquired a chef’s knife that looks very much like a Ken Onion design—especially the recurve blade and contoured handle—but it has **no markings or logos** on the blade or handle

Details:

- 8" blade, slightly upswept with a noticeable curve near the heel

- No "Ken Onion" or "Shun" markings

- Handle has a deep ergonomic grip, possibly pakkawood or micarta

- Feels very well-balanced, almost custom-made

Photo attached below.

Does anyone recognize this as a known model, custom knife, or possibly a prototype? Any info would be really appreciated. Thanks!

It's the Shun Ken Onion model, it just doesn't have the logo on the blade anymore. Plenty of them on eBay and whatnot, they are crazy overpriced now because they have been out of production for a while. Nice knife if you got it for a decent price it would be an excellent user.

Thanks! I use it all the time (love the feel/balance for kitchen use)

Many of the knife logo's are "printed" onto the blades, so they will wear off after a while. Some are laser etched now and some are chiseled into the blade like on some Japanese knives, so those markings hold up better!

Just be careful sharpening the area near the heel so you don't get a recurve. The angled bolster can make it harder to sharpen all the way to the heel at the same angle.
