Hi. :)

I recently had the luck of finding this nice little Onion fixed-blade for sale, listed as the 'Hawaiian Amala'. After searching the Onion forum I found 2 pix of other(s) and one referred to this as the 'Unusual'... Can anyone provide details/info/trivia related to the model? Its real name, how many, etc. It seems that these were part of the Onion lottery at a Vegas knife show this year.

I tried to register at Ken Onion's forum, to ask over there, but I'm still waiting for a password to post... Actually I tried to register twice over a 2 day period, with no emailed password for either username... Maybe tech difficulties? Maybe me? :)

I haven't received mine yet so no personal photos... I had to borrow these photos to show the knife in question.

Please help me learn more about my new Onion! Thanks for reading. :D

Jaxx,
Ken calls this knife the Unusual Hunter. I don't have too many details/specs on the knife. I have one currently on my desk, and started messing with it when I saw your post. Micarta scales, 3 1/2" blade, 8" overall. Cute piece, love the blade shape. I know you will enjoy it.

Hi Thomas :)

Thanks for the info on the name! It has a very interesting shape, indeed! I can't wait to see it. Do you happen to know how many are out there?

:) Thanks, Tim, I do recall reading somewhere, on my quest for more info on the 'Unusual Hunter', that there were 6 fixed-blades at the show this year but there was no mention of their 'names' or how many types of fixed-blades there were. I'm guessing then that they all went in the Vegas lottery??? Bad guess?

----------> Oh! ...And of all the photos of Ken Onion's table floating around, I can only find 1 of a young lady ('Wendy') holding one 'Unusual' she'd just won in the lottery, but NONE of the fixed-blades on the table; only the folders were shown. Nice folders! LOL ...But what about the fixed blades?! ha-ha :)

BTW, Thomas, mine is supposed to have green G-10 scales, looks like the top photo. I can't tell (newbie collector here), can you? That is the one that I just purchased online from AZ. Custom Knives. (I borrowed the photo of it.)
