What locking mechanism(s) is/are used on Ken Onion knives? I've read a lot about the speed assisted opening, but nothing on the lock and closing.

Liner locks on the Kershaw's, Chive has a frame lock. If they ever make the Whisper, it'll have the vault lock. I think it's a spring loaded tab that locks under the stud when open.

The Whisper should be out at the end of this month - that was the latest update from Kershaw this week. 100 should be shipping, with more to follow in December and January. I've played with the VaultLock and it's pretty damned cool! Handles are going to be titanium with sanoprene (I think that's what it's called) inserts.

Ken Onion also uses the liner lock and a "modular" lock, an advanced form of inlaid leaf lock. His custom frame locks ar the finest knives I own.

Who's getting the 1st 100? Any idea what the price is? Is that a pic of the knife as your avatar? Am I asking too many questions? :D

All SpeedSafes save for the Chive and Whisper are indeed liner locks.

It should be noted that the lock on my Blackout isn't very impressive, but given what my knife is, that's maybe a good thing.

I always considered my Blackout a "soft" use knife due to it's 440A blade and flimsy-feeling (i'm sure they are stronger than they feel) polymide handles. Anyway, one day I dropped it on a tile floor, no damage was done to the blade, thank goodness, but the lock gave, it didn't break, it just unlocked...
My Blackout still performs the same as it did the day I bought it, but this incident really showed me that I could have no illusions of my Blackout acting like an Emerson.
