Been thinking about trying a Kershaw. I don't like recurves, and I don't like metal scales/handles.

So I found the 1660 with S30V and G-10 scales. Can I get some opinions on this one? Looks like a handy little EDC.

Guyon,
That's one of my favorite Leeks, out of the couple dozen that I have in the collection:D The g-10 slabs are just the perfect grippiness, they are a bit thicker than a standard stainless or anodized aluminum handles so they fill the hand a bit better, and the stonewash finish that Kershaw does looks absolutely sweet. Could very well be one of the best looking finishes on a blade that I've seen. Satin is my favorite, but the Kershaw stonewash is nippin' at its heels for sure.

You will love that version of the Leek. If you buy one and you don't like it, I would gladly buy it from you;)

I'm going to assume you're referring to the 1660G10...

It has a stone-washed flat-ground S30V blade and textured G10 handles and makes a nice EDC...the G10 is grippy and the S30V is sharp!

There have been a number of Leeks with G10 handles and S30V, however...

Here's 4 of them (the 5th knife has G10 scales but is not S30V...

The stone-washed G10 model is on the left, and in the middle from top to bottom is the 1660CGT, satin-finish hollow-ground S30V with textured G10 followed by the 1660CGTST, the same knife but partially serrated, and then the 1660PGT, satin-finish hollow-ground S30V with polished G10 scales.

The Leek on the right is not S30V (it's either 13C26 or 440A...not sure which), but it has great G10 scales...

Alas these are all gone, but I can heartily recommend any/all of them...

Ray :)

I think the Leek is one of the better EDC knives on the market, certainly one of the best Kershaw makes. I like everything about the knife except the handle is a bit small and the ergos slightly off for me, just enough to make me not carry it (considering giving one another chance though). I prefer the handles of the Skyline and O So Sweet myself, but neither are available in G10 and S30V like the Leek is. Personally I'd love to see a Spec Bump with a blade shaped like the Leeks. I like the handle of the former and the blade of the latter.

The G-10 Leek is probably one of the best Leeks I have. I don't like stainless handles either, so the G-10 is a nice change. I've found that the G-10 Leek is about the perfect "donor" knife if you're going to FrankenLeek your Kershaws... a G-10 Leek with composite blade or G-10 with damascus would be very cool. But for now they only exist in my mind. Ahem, I'm going to play with my Leeks and the Torx Tool now to do some tinkering...

Ray, I see you still have a few left;) Gotta love those G-10 Leeks:thumbup:

Give it a go Guyon. I really enjoy using mine. Its a handy knife that's built a lot better than its price would suggest. I think you'll like it. If you don't like it, let me know and I'll take it off your hands for you!

Just remember the SpeedSafe may be a little slow at first. If so, it just needs some break-in time.

I've got the 1660CGT and I love it. I'm right there with you on the metal scales. The G10 is nice and grippy, and it makes the knife a little thicker, which I like. Great blade shape for most EDC stuff. Cuts like a laser. It feels nice and small in the pocket, but you've got a good 3 inches of blade. Highly recommended.

No Jon...none of these are left (except for a 1660G10 still SOLD Pending Funds)...these are old pictures, unfortunately...:(

I'm certain they're being enjoyed in their new homes, though...:D

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Okay, I'm about sold. Best online vendor for Kershaw?

I love it when Busse guys come to Kershaw for folders. It just gives me this warm fuzzy "I love the best folders" feeling...

wow you got a whole lot of the same knife.

Hang around here a while and we will recalibrate that sense of "a whole lot" for you. (see pic below, also visit the Kershaw pics sticky at the top of the threads page):D

And just for the record...G10 Leeks are great. Kershaw really got the texture right on those handles. IMO G10 Leeks are even better when you take the G10 front side of one of them and combine it with a framelock side from another leek. Attach the whole thing with Shallot handle screws and enjoy.

Guyon,

I have a user I'll gladly send you if you want to try it out before you buy.

Just to throw in my 2 cents, I had one and sold it as I found the G10 way too grippy on my pocket. I'm probably in the minority on that one.
