Hi,
Just purchased the above knife. A paralized student of mine really liked it. He was able to work it just fine. Does anyone own this particular knife and have a comment or two on keeping it smooth opening etc.?
I have never really tried the assisted blade opening technology except on the Blackie Collin's CIA Letter Opener. I like that zytel toy. Is the real McCoy just as good?
Thanks.
Warm regards,
Prof.ED

I have the Chive and have had it for quite a while now. I must've opened it a couple of hundred times now and it still opens smooth. Great knife, I assume the scallion is just the same. Welcome to the forums, Prof. Ed.

Hi Prof.Ed. The Scallion is a great little knife. As with most of Kershaws speed safe knives, it takes 50 or so openings to break in and then they are smooth and quick. If it slows down after time and use, just a tiny drop of good oil on the pivot is all that is needed to bring her back to life. Since your student finds this easy for him to use, he can take a look at the other assisted opening knives Kershaw offers. I have six models and they are all great.

I carried my scallion everyday untill it was stolen during a mugging :(

Great knife, I had it for a few months but it was great. Be careful when its humid out for more then a few days, a few slight rust dots may be prodeuced, just be sure to oil the blade a little (just a few drops) and rub hard with some soft tissue or cloth (when that happens).

I bougth my Scallion to use as an EDC, and it's perfect for that. Fits very nicely in the watch pocket in my jeans. I find it very difficult to open reliably with the thumbstud, but that doesn't matter much 'cause I'd rather use the flipper anyway. I haven't had it very long, but it's nice and solid and I expect it to hold up well for a while. I have the Blackie Collins CIA Letter Opener too ... that thing's pretty cool, and fairly impressive for a cheap plastic knife. The Scallion is a high quality knife that will serve you well.

I've got 2 Scallions. A plain blade, & a partially serrated. I'm still carrying the first one, while the 2nd is NIB. I must have opened that knife 5,000 times, LITERALLY. It's just a fun knife to play with. It is an easy knife to CLOSE with one hand, too.

In my opinion, it's the best $30 knife out there.
