I picked up a Kershaw Leek (rainbow - nice looking knife) and I was wondering about the legality of the speed-assist (not that I'm planning on flicking it open in front of a LEO anytime soon, just sayin') in my area. I live in L.A. County but travel within the city often on business. I can see how it could easily be perceived as a switchblade the way it snaps open. Also when closing it there is no 'bias toward closure' that non-AO folders usually have.

it could be applied under the switchblade section. i do not believe it to be as such, but i may not be the officer who contacts you.

assisted openers and the emerson wave have not been addressed by the penal code, although i think they will be.

since the kershaws use a thumbstud and the 'spring' biases the knife toward the closed position, i think you are ok.

it might be wise to read pc 653(k) to familiarize yourself and carry a copy with you.

also read through pc 12020, as there are other laws pertaining to knives there as well.
