I have a small Kenmore fridge that I keep beer and water in. Its not one of the tiny ones but small. My wife has always hated it because she always says "who has a refridgerator in the living room" to which my reply is "ME".

Anyway, she had our son "defrost" it this weekend by chipping out the ice in the freezer. At one point I heard this big PSSSSSHHHHHHTTTT like he hit a pipe or something but there was literally nothing there for him to hit.

Now the fridge doesn't work at all. It was only around a 100 bucks, so its probably not worth hiring somebody to fix, but could it be something simple? I fiddled with the controls but nothing seems to be broken. My wife is happy, so it probably is going to the dump, but I hate to toss it if it could be cheaply fixed.

Sounds like he hit one of the coolant lines. Even though you didn't hear the coolant escape, you lost the pressure in the system. You really need to let those small fridges defrost naturally or, you destroy them with one misplaced attempt to chip some ice away.

Go down to Home Depot or a similar place of your choice and buy a new one ... it will be cheaper. :(

I figured, but wifey doesn't want a fridge in the living room (go figure ) anyway so it was kind of "grandfathered" in; she tolerated it and let me keep it. If it's broke, no more fridge in living room. :(

While she is out one day go and buy another one.
When she comes back tell her that you got it fixed, cleaned it up and gave it a new coat of paint. :D

Next time you catch someone going after your beer fridge with an ice pick or screwdriver take it away from them and hand them a hair dryer.
