Asking for any advice from this excellent forum. Cheap Kenmore washer, about 5 years old, will fill up with water and will agitate. But it will not drain and spin on the rinse cycle. Drain hose is clear, and sometimes will drain when the control knob is manually manipulated. Is it worth getting fixed if it is a sensdr or relay or gear problem, or should I just fork over another $300 for another new one? I have been intending on getting a new small freezer anyway and Sears is having a sale. Thank you in advance for any information. This forum has always been very helpful. Have a great week.:)

I had that problem years ago. My unit had the same symptoms. I tore it down & found threads, lint & my other favorite sock.
Early into raising kids ,I'd have to remove a missing cloth diaper. Evidently clearance on the side of the tub increases as it wears down.

If it won't drain the spin cycle is not activated.

ps You might see if they have a self-help website .

Mine did the same thing. I ended up buying a new washer. It was going to cost almost as much to fix it.

sounds like your timer has stripped a gear or has some other malfunction. The part should be about forty bucks from sears parts, but if you have to have somebody come put it in for you, you might as well just buy a new washer.

timer motor, pull the assembly behind the knob and take it to an appliance supply house. shouldn't be too bad. good luck, ahgar

Turned out to be the lid switch. I found a little retired marine who deals exclusively with washers and dryers. From the surrounding area. Neat little leatherneck- efficient, courteous and polite. Under a hundred dollars and fixed. Once again, thanks for the advice from the people in this forum.
