I was very lucky to be given 4 DMT stones to sharpen my knives on. When the previous owner gave them to me he recommended soapy water, thus I used dawn and water. The little research I did on the topic pointed towards the surface tension helping pull the metal to the surface and away from the stone.

Anyway, read, watched, somewhere to try kerosene. I was skeptical but I was getting lack luster results with soapy water so decided to try it. Went out and purchases some Kleen-Heat
It has been amazing, I am getting better finishes, with less passes. At first I thought this might be psychosomatic, but I started sharpening all of my knives on the DMT stones and kerosehttps://myip.kim/ https://birthdaywishes.onl/ https://elecpay.in/tneb/

ne and have been over the moon with my results.

I have no idea how different types of stones are effected by using kerosene vs other fluids but my solid DMT stones have had no issues.

Quick safety note: Kerosene is flammable, and will ignite around 450 degrees. I have made some tests on thus far feel safe using it. I have not been able to ignite it with a soldering iron at 750 degrees F which may because of the type of kerosene it is, but I have no doubt if you were to create a spark it would ignite. So if you decide to try this, be smart, use only what you need, in a well ventilated area with a fire extinguisher nearby.

Kerosene works but you best be outdoors when using it. I prefer using mineral oil as it works the same with no odor. If I were cleaning a
gun, I use kerosene. Purchasing Jet-A without the Prist in it is the same at a fraction of the cost. DM

I have been using air tool oil for a few years now. It seems to be the perfect viscosity and has almost no odor compared to kerosene. It's also cheap and sold in every auto parts store and most big box building supply stores. For a few bucks you should try it out.
