Can the SS Junkyard Dog be opened without any wrist action? I played with a JYD 2 in a store and i know that it can be opened easily and smoothly without and wrist action but im hearing that the smaller SS JYD can't. Is it the technique or just the knife itself because i can open my groove, zing, ram and chill easily without and wrist action.

You shouldn't have an issue with the Small JYD if you can flip the others without any wrist action. Sounds like you have good technique.

The big dog opens much fater and easier than the small dog, assuming both are tightened so that there is no blade play. the second one, i think is kind of cheesy. i like the big one. just my $.02

I have two and I tightned both so there is no blade play and I can still flick them open without using my wrist.

My experience with the smaller JYD is limited, but the one I handled was just as smooth and easy to open as my JYD2 CB is, and I'd put it at a close second-best non-assisted flipper I've ever handled...right behind a knife with IKBS, if that tells you anything.

I don't see you having any problems with it.

Some oil + practice and it opens very easy by only pressing the flipper. Now I can't stop playing with it:o

My JYDII CB's, including a blem in grey G10 with the smaller JYD's fuselage pattern, work quite well - opening with a good 'thunk'. A more polite - but bank-vault inspiring- 'clunk' is heard from the easier to open Ti framelock SG2 variants, one also a blem. No JYD's here now, but it is a nice knife. The Ti/SG2 blemished JYDII, the only way that version seems to be available now, is a great bargain. Very well made knife, despite the poorly centered lamination. Mine came second only to my original production version in being my sharpest 'out of the box' new knives.

If you have never touched a Kershaw, even a basic CB (CPM-D2 edge) JYDII will shock and spoil you... be forewarned! Solid flipper - just start with inward pressure before pulling the flipper back smartly.

play with the pivot and some oil
you can have 0 play, and be able to hold the knife vertically with thumb and middle fingers and flip it open completely with the index finger

Thanks you guys were a big help, i was never fond of the JYD design but then i was able to play with my brother's tim galyean pro series junkyard dawg and i fell in love with the design. This is probably the closest i can probably get to the real thing until i save up some more money. My wallet is still recovering from buying my first sebenza but it was worth every penny.
