Kersahw Zing 1735 Detent too hard?

i dont have that model, but it is a flipper, correct?

the detents on flippers tend to have stronger retention than many other folders. this allows more inertia to be generated when applying force to the flipper, and thus providing more force during opening creating better reliability.

eg, i have a darrel ralph flipper that also has thumbstuds. it is pretty much impossible to open using the thumbstuds. i just cant overcome the detent without poking a hold in my thumb.

i had the same experience with an xm18, which was traded for the ddr.

note: the above is not necessarily true for assisted flippers.

Mine was terrible, but has broken in pretty good now. Still harder to flip open then some of my other flippers, but it's tolerable now.

There are no detent problems with the Zings. It's a volume production folder. You'll find some where the detent is stronger than others. You'll find users that prefer the piece dialed in one way vs. the other.

Of course it will suck, and there will be a dissatisfied post should one prefer the knife to act one way, and it's built the opposite.

Liking flippers, I personally prefer them with a rugged detent.

On another note, if you don't like a strong detent, stay away from the custom makers that have mastered the flipper (RJ, Galyean, Williams). You have to mean to open those beauties. :)

drake225, are you saying it locks up to tight or is it too hard to open? Or have you not gotten yours yet and are concerned about it?
They usually come a little bit snug but loosen up a little with use then settle down. A drop of oil in the pivot helps. After that get a T9 torx driver and you have some tension adjustment on the pivot screw. Next leave it alone!
Of you can't leave it alone and don't mind the blade not sitting perfectly centered.Warning the following is not for the faint of heart. Trade you T9 out for a T6 and take the knife down and directly adjust the tension on the bar that locks the blade up. If you can't tell how to increase or decrease the tension on the bar that is a good clue not to take the knife apart in the first place.
I love mine to death! I can make it a gravity knife or bring it to the point where you need pliers to open it. RJ Martin nailed that design and Kershaw executed it perfectly. Now give me a composite blade version or a DAM that isn't hideous and I won't know what to do with myself:p

yeah that was me, it has to be the strongest detent i have ever seen/felt,

dont get me wrong the zing is a very cool knife but i dont ever use it
because it starts to hurt you finger after opening it a couple times

i have broken it in which helped i little bit but it is still to strong for edc

maybe i got a defective one or something
