I have a Kershaw made in Japan knife 1034 TF WhichI bought in South Africa as a bush carry knife in the 80’s .
I have a question about the cut out in the base of the blade next to the handle on the cutting edge side .
The question is what is it there for?

It still has the original material ,nylon I guess, sheath and it all still looks like new.

Unfortunatly in this country (UK) I would ,these days , get locked up for carrying such a knife, so it just lives in the kitchen ,much loved , but unused.

Out looks like a finger choil. A cut out to grip closer to the blade when doing finer detail work. Beleive they where aimed towards hunters and such.
