Hi folks,

I have some questions concerning the knife stated above:

- is it a real damascus blade or only an etched look-a-like one?
- is the handle made of laminated Pakka wood?
- what are the bolsters made of?
- is it an integral construction (i.e. liners and bolsters are one piece)?

...and last not least...

HOW MUCH SHALL I PAY FOR IT???

Thanks in advance for your input.

Cheers from Germany.

Google says, "Kershaw's original folding hunter 30th anniversary style. This beautiful folding knife is a work of art. The Black Pakka-wood handle has built in finger contours for a firm, non-slip grip. The premium steel is awesome Damascus looking VG-10, center-clad with 16 layers of stainless/nickel steel. Pleasing to the eye yes, but as good as it gets for high performance blade steel. Certificate of Authenticity. Only 500 made. $370. (MSRP $500)"

Sounds to me like a high-end Damascus, i.e., Damscus with a VG-10 core. It would then be etched (with a solution, not "etched" as in engraving), as that's what brings out the light and dark of the layers in any Damascus. The bolsters should be nickel-silver (more properly termed nickel-brass), I believe. I'm almost certain the bolsters and liner are not one piece, but polished to the point that you cannot see the seam.

Thank you so far, I didn´t get that information at google.de.

But to me the bolsters look more like nickel silver, but I´m not really sure.

Yeah, I went back and changed that. Sometimes highly polished brass looks silvery in photos, but I now believe it's nickel-silver.

On google.com I found this:

"Kershaw 30th Anniversary Knife, Black Pakka Wood Handle, Wood Box. Kershaw 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Deer Hunter. A special issue of the knife that started it all for Kershaw- their original model 1050 folding hunter with finger grooved handle. 4" locking drop point blade. Solid nickel silver bolsters and finger grooved contoured Micarta handles. Beautiful wood presentation box with serial numbered certificate of authenticity
Each knife is serial numbered xx/500. Damascus Steel Blade. Drop Point Blade - 4" (10.2cm), Overall - 8 1/4" (21cm), Weight- 8.2 oz."

So it MUST be nickel silver but why is that guy talkin´ ´bout MICARTA???

I once had the "normal" version of the 1050 in my collction but those handles were phenolic.

riff, you are right on. This is the knife that my friend has in
his shop for sale. If this was my kind of knife I would buy it,
but it's not my thing.

Hi Ralph,

"This beautiful folding knife is a work of art."

I have to double that, even the normal version was of outstanding built quality...far better than many of my Pumas, Bucks, Schrades etc.;)
