Hi all.

I recently acquired a rather seasoned Kershaw Blackout 1550. The original owner didn't have the accompanying paperwork and had no idea whether this one had a 440A or a 13C26 steel blade. Is there any way I could tell one from the other?

There is the standard "Kershaw"/"Ken Onion USA" inscription on one side of the blade, and "1550"/"KAI Pat.No.6,145,202"/"MADE IN USA" on the other side. The pocket clip has the standard "Kershaw" writing, as well as "Pat No"/"454,768"/"455,062".

Thanks in advance.

Welcome noth! Did you find a date etch on the blade near the choil? If you can find it, and the date is July 07 or later its 13C26. If earlier, or if no etch, its 440A.

Hope this helps!

Thanks SPXTrader. There's "Feb 04" etched there so a 440A that is. I so hoped it was a Sandvik blade... This is still one of the smoothest knives I've handled lately.

I just picked up another Centofante-Onion with JUL 07 on the blade. Is it for sure Sanvik 13c26? It has a polished blade and pearl inlays. I was told by the dealer it is 440a. Kershaws web site still says both 440a and 13c26 for the Centofante-Onion. Any thoughts?

Thanks guys that's what I thought. At one time I think Thomas said that some made around the change date could be 440a. I like it either way it is beautiful.
