Kershaw 1660CB D2 Steel Flaws?

I just purchased a Kershaw 1660CB composite blade with D2 steel for the cutting edge. I placed the knife in heated vinegar to put a protective patina on the D2 steel and now I have what appears to be tiny darker dots on one side of the blade and the other side is free of defects. Is this normal for D2 steel treated with vinegar?

I have noticed that my knives with bare D2 haven't needed any special attention.
My Becker BK24 has been used on and off for almost two years, put away dirty and wet, sap ridden, used on foods both raw and cooked and it has yet to show all but the slightest hint of coloration.
I have read that D2 tends to pit rather than patina or rust. So I wouldn't worry about trying to actively "protect" it.

That being said, I do not know what solace I could offer to you now though.
I would like to see some photos, this may cause some ideas to spring to mind.
