Does anyone happen to know what steel was used in the original kershaw 1993 limited edition knife? The newer 1993-2 were VG-10 but I can't seem to find any info about this older version. If I had to guess I would say it's probably Aus6 based on how easily it sharpens to a wicked sharp edge and the fact that most of the Japanese made Kershaw knives back then were Aus6, but I could be wrong:confused:. The tang is stamped "Kershaw Limited edition" and "Japan 1993". Anyone have any info about these?

I can't be of any help, but just wanted to say that that is one beautiful knife.

Try contacting Kershaw? Just a thought, buy from my experience their customer service has always been pleasant and helpful over the phone, or even contact them via email?

I had emailed Kershaw a few years ago when I first got the knife and they didn't really have much info about it. Maybe I'll give it another shot and see what they say. Thanks

That was before the Steel-Of-The-Week nonsense hit the knife industry, so steel type wasn't advertised, and wasn't used as a major selling point. Probably VG-10, just guessing, based upon its origin.

Kershaw used two steels in 1993, AUS6 and AUS8, the 8 was used in the hunting knives and the 6 in most of the rest, the model 1993 is AUS6

I figured it was AUS6. That was just about all Seki City used back then. I had Al Mars from that time, and they were all AUS6.

Thanks guys. Kershaw just emailed me back and confirmed my suspicion that it was Aus6.
